Hi! I'm Waleed.

High school + college math and physics can certainly be overwhelming at times, there can be so much information thrown at you with the expectation that you absorb it all quickly and correctly. Hi! I'm Waleed.

High school + college math and physics can certainly be overwhelming at times, there can be so much information thrown at you with the expectation that you absorb it all quickly and correctly. I believe this journey can be made much less daunting with the help of an experienced ally; someone who can offer problem-solving guidance, encouragement, support, and ultimately be a powerful force that promotes your learning and self-development.

As someone who possesses a bachelor’s degree in Biophysics and obtained a 99th percentile score in the math section of the ACT, I have had much experience with all the physics and math courses taught at the high school level. Throughout my undergraduate work, I was involved in tutoring my own peers in concepts which were taught in all the classes we took. I found this to be an incredible passion of mine and acquired over 2,000 hours of tutoring experience. And over those 2,000 hours my passion and joy for tutoring has not dwindled at all. I’m a big believer of walking my students through the thought-process needed to solve a problem step-by-step and watching them have their own insights which ultimately lead them to the solution. I believe this approach is most powerful for promoting true learning. During sessions, I make it a point to let my students know they can ask a question at any time to clarify a concept, such that we don’t allow confusions and misunderstandings to remain.

I am also a big believer in being a very patient tutor and appreciate the positive energy that patience adds to the tutoring dynamic. Placing expectations on students to understand problems quickly and solve them in a rushed manner serves no purpose except to short-circuit the tutoring process and make students doubt themselves and feel pressured or judged. I’ve had teachers who made my stomach churn, and because of those experiences, I have made it my goal to constantly reflect on whether I’m making my students feel comfortable or not.

As a result of my past experience as a tutor,

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Studied Honors Algebra 2 and received a top grade. Used algebra 2 techniques extensively in college, and tutored college students in Algebra 2. Topics within Algebra 2 which I am comfortable tutoring on include: Inequalities, graphs, matrices, polynomials/radical expressions, quadratic equations, functions, exponential and logarithmic expressions, sequences, series, probability, and last but not least, trigonometry.
Calculus,

Calculus

I Studied Calculus 1, 2, Multivariable, and Differential Equations as a physics major in college--tutored calculus students as an undergraduate. Topics I can tutor in calculus include: the chain rule, derivatives, integrals (definite and indefinite), the extreme value theorem, first derivative test, the fundamental theorem of calculus, implicit differentiation, intermediate value theorem, limits, the mean value theorem, Newton's method for finding the root of a function, the second derivative test, inflection points, Taylor series, ratio test, arc length, exponential growth, surface of revolution, convergent series, harmonic series, and last but not least, radius of convergence.
Physics,

Physics

Majored in Biophysics in College--tutored junior undergraduates in Physics. Very comfortable tutoring all high school physics, AP Physics B, AP Physics C. Topics I tutor include: Mechanics, Kinematics, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electricity and Magnetism, Oscillations and Waves.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Took honors Pre-Calc in high school and obtained top grade, used Pre-Calc on a daily basis in Physics major during college, and tutored other students who needed help with Pre-Calc. Topics within Pre-Calc that I would be comfortable tutoring on, include: Functions, rational/irrational numbers, graphs, roots of polynomials, quadratics, completing the square, synthetic division, points of inflection, reflections of a graph, symmetry of a graph, rational functions, inverse functions, logarithms, logarithmic and exponential functions, and last but not least, permutations/combinations.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I obtained a 99th percentile score in the ACT Math section after studying all types of questions extensively. Unofficially, I tutored high school students who needed help with the ACT math section. I am also proficient in all GRE Math. Topics pertaining to the ACT/GRE Math which I can tutor on, include: arithmetic, geometry, algebra, data analysis, pre-algebra, elementary/intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and all types of trigonometry covered on the ACT.

Trigonometry

I used trigonometry extensively throughout my Physics major in college. I tutored many undergraduate physics students who needed help with the trigonometry used in physics -- and have a very strong grasp on the subject. Topics in trigonometry which I can tutor on, include: trigonometric ratios, the unit circle, sine/cosine, inverse trigonometric functions, tangent/cotangent, secant/cosecant, trigonometric identities, angle identities, trigonometric equations, area/triangle laws, and trigonometric applications.
