About Holly

I really enjoy learning and feel a sense of accomplishment when I can share what I know with others. I have just over a year of tutoring experience and am excited to continue tutoring because of the satisfaction I get from helping others and the enjoyment that comes from helping students become comfortable with the topics that give them trouble. I believe a solid education is extremely important in today's world and is necessary for success, and I am ready to help students find that success.

I recently graduated from law school where I specialized in both health law and international law. While in law school I was a senior editor for a law review journal and I tutored students on the writing and editing process. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Minor in Spanish.

When I tutor students who are confused about something I find that I can often explain things from a slightly different perspective that makes more sense, or mentally "clicks" for that student. Watching students achieve an understanding of a concept that has been troubling them is a very rewarding experience and I want to continue helping students find success.

I know that I possess the education, knowledge, and experience that makes me an effective tutor that will help students succeed. I am happy to help with reading, writing, editing, proofreading, legal studies, and Spanish. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

I am an outstanding Spanish tutor because I studied the language for nearly 6 years, including all four years of high school and two years in college, and I graduated with a Minor in Spanish. I got A's in almost every Spanish course I took. I still have some of my Spanish course books and I try to practice with the language whenever I can, whether it be reading newspaper articles online or speaking with the locals when I travel to Spanish speaking countries.

I am an outstanding English tutor because I spent two years in law school as a senior editor of one of the many law review journals at my law school where I was constantly reading and editing scholarly articles written by both professionals and professors from across the nation. In my first year as a senior editor I authored a student journal article that was published in the journal's Spring 2014 edition.

As a senior editor I not only performed editing and proofreading tasks, but I also acted as a tutor to the younger students. Many students were very new to the task of editing and proofreading scholarly articles for an academic journal and would get frustrated with the process. I often met one-on-one with these students and after some tutoring they soon developed confidence and a better understanding of the writing and editing process. Additionally, law school and the practice of law itself is extremely writing intensive, and aside from nearly every exam being an essay exam, I received an A in all of my legal writing courses. My love of reading and many years of writing, editing, and proofreading articles and papers in both undergrad and law school has also given me an extensive vocabulary and I look forward to sharing it with students.

I am an outstanding law tutor because I studied law for three years and graduated with straight A's from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in May 2016. I made the Dean's List twice and earned almost all A's and B's during my law school career. My boyfriend is an attorney so although I am not currently practicing, I still keep up with the law and practice by discussing cases he works on for his firm.

I also took the Illinois bar exam at the end of July so after graduation I followed an intense study schedule for the approximately 8-9 weeks between graduation and the exam. While I am still awaiting my bar exam results, I am confident that I have attained a firm understanding of the law and passed the exam.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
