About Kelsey

Hi I am Kelsey! I work as a urban health and women's health researcher at The University of Chicago. I have a large fondness for tutoring because the payoff can be huge! Nothing brings me greater satisfaction than helping a student recognize that they ARE smart and capable in whatever subject they set their mind to.

My tutoring methods are simple. I work to empower my students by finding a learning style that is best for them. Sometimes students aren't allowed the privilege of trying different learning techniques in school and I like helping people to find a method that works best for them.

Based on my experience, my specialties are the Social Sciences, Spanish, writing, and study skills.

I am an urban health and women's health researcher at The University of Chicago. My work incorporates mixed quantitative and qualitative methods from the social sciences as well as hard sciences. Hands on experience in research and working in an academic setting is my largest asset in being a great tutor. I have a happy and patient personality and love empowering students to reach their full potential. In undergrad I was selected as the Anthropology Student of the Year as well as a part-time sociology TA.

Spanish has always been my favorite subject and I love helping people that are fearful of learning a new language to see that it can be a fun and rewarding process. I have a minor in Spanish and Hispanic studies as well as two years of full language immersion after working for a medical non-profit in Panama.

Academic writing is a large part of my full-time job as a researcher at The University of Chicago. I love helping students to hone their writing skills by working with them on essay structure and theme synthesis.

If you are looking for a tutor who is happy, patient, and excited to build a relationship of interactive learning then I am your girl! Please feel free to contact me to learn more about my qualifications as well as schedule lessons.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

My bachelor's degree was in Medical Anthropology and I was selected my senior year for the "Anthropology Student of the Year" award. During my studies I conducted university funded research and worked as a social science TA. I now work in a federally funded social science research lab at the University of Chicago employing anthropological methods to research daily.

Sociology

During my undergraduate education in Anthropology I was a student in the Social Sciences division and took multiple upper level sociology courses. Apart from taking classes, I worked part-time as a TA for a quantitative research methods course, spending 10 hours a week tutoring students in sociology research methods and helping them to develop research proposals. I use sociology methods in my full-time job as a social science researcher at the University of Chicago.
