I have recently graduated with a Master's degree in Microbiology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I am currently working part time while looking for a job that meets my desires in a career. I have just moved to Chicago after growing up in the suburbs and spending my college time in Champaign.
While attending graduate school, I began working as a teaching assistant and quickly fell in love with teaching students. I really found it rewarding to see students finally gaining the knowledge they were looking for through hard work and hopefully help through me. While teaching, I discovered how important it was to cater your teaching style to the individual student's needs. I was rated excellent all six semesters I taught and won the Outstanding Teaching Assistant in Microbiology award my last semester teaching.
I have spent a lot of time with students in office hours which are basically small tutoring sessions. I am also a young student who is not too far removed from going through what the students currently are, so I can relate and help cater to what will help them most.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
