Bio

I have been a teacher for preschool and kindergarten for approximately 10 years. I enjoy working with students and helping them to reach their goals and be successful in their own way. It is gratifying to see the excitement in a child's face when they conquer a challenge they had been working on for a while. I enjoy working with students in small groups or one on one so that I can help them be successful because every child is different and needs lessons differentiated for their learning...

I have been a teacher for preschool and kindergarten for approximately 10 years. I enjoy working with students and helping them to reach their goals and be successful in their own way. It is gratifying to see the excitement in a child's face when they conquer a challenge they had been working on for a while. I enjoy working with students in small groups or one on one so that I can help them be successful because every child is different and needs lessons differentiated for their learning style. I love coming up with new and exciting activities and finding new resources to use with lessons. I previously taught an after school program for 3 years at the school that I taught at. The students loved the hands on activities that we did to help them learn about reading, and math.

Reading has always been my favorite hobby. I love listening to students read. I create guided reading groups in my classroom to teach specific skills each week to help my students learn how to read and they are also given independent reading time while I go around and work with individual students on skills they need to learn

I have taught kindergarten for 4 years and phonics is one of the most important subjects that is learned in kindergarten so that a child can learn how to read. I use many different activities and resources when teaching phonics to my students and a lot of repetition. I try to make phonics time fun by finding different songs, and activities to use that will keep the students interested.
Spelling was always my favorite subject. I love to work with students on spelling skills and helping them to practice spelling words using various activities and fun lessons

I am looking forward to working as a tutor and helping my students to become successful and happy about their progress. I look forward to hearing from you

Common Core,

Common Core

The reason why I feel that I could teach common core is because I have used it for the past 5 years in my school setting. We based all of our units and lessons around what was grade appropriate under the common core state standards. I spent a lot of time looking over the standards every week when getting ready to create a new lesson plan and making sure that when we created assessments at the end of the units we were touching on all common core standards.

I have been teaching in Chicago for more than 10 years. I have taught preschool and Kindergarten for 9 years, and I taught a year of 1st grade. I also taught after school for students up to 3rd grade in reading and math.
Phonics,

Phonics

I believe that I am qualified to teach phonics because this is a subject that I teach to my Kindergarten students everyday. Phonics is a subject that students need to know and understand in order to learn how to read. I teach my students various phonics skills daily and weekly and think that I would be very good at helping a student with their phonics work. I have taught preschool for 5 years and Kindergarten for 4 years in the same school setting and we use phonics, and phonemic awareness daily.

Writing,

Writing

Writing is a subject that I am able to teach because when I am teaching it and checking work, I always make sure to re-read what is being written and have the students go back and read it aloud so that they can hear how their writing sounds. This is a great method because when the student hears what they have written they can find the errors much easier or find different words that would make better sense in their writing.
