My name is Julie and I have been at teacher for the past nineteen years. I love teaching and you might wonder why! I love being in school. To me, it is cool to learn and to keep learning. If I could I would be a full-time college student. But since I cannot afford that, the next best thing is teaching in the classroom. Every summer, I take the time to learn something new. This past summer I worked with the organization, Computer Science 4 All, and learned how to integrate Computer Science in Algebra and within the Science class. To be honest I am probably not as good as you, but what a feeling to learn how to code!
I also spent a week at the Chicago Botanical Gardens learning about Climate Change and how I can teach it in a classroom setting. Love attending Science classes at the Botanical Gardens because it is a beautiful and peaceful setting and the teachers there do such a great job!
My third favorite group that I attend classes with is Northwestern University. They offer a variety of classes for teachers to see what might work to enhance the science classes. What a beautiful setting and they (teachers) at Northwestern do a great job. I took a STEAM class which is incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics in a science class. Boy, now that was a ton of fun.
The rest of the summer I read, bike ride, and play golf! Also I spend time with my many nieces and nephews. Going to my nephew's baseball games. I love Great America and roller coast rides, except Vertical Velocity. Nope Vertical Velocity!
I hope this helps you in getting to know me.
I have been tutoring students in Math for years. There are many ways to get the answer to the math problem and sometimes students think their is only one way. Math is a way of thinking and I will help students think mathematically. Math is fun and I utilize all the resources available to show them the way,
Science happens to be one of my favorite subjects to teach. I have taught students and teachers science. It is so much fun to have their eyes light up when they understand the concept. For some students that concept may not come right away but rather a touch down the line. That is ok! I have a love of Genetics and Ecology. Where we come from and how we treat the planet we live on is important. Within those content areas are the Chemistry and Physics! Did you know that when you go to Great America, you are actually in Physics Land!
