About Mary

Hello there! As a true lover of learning and literature, teaching English and language arts has not only been my career choice, but also my passion. It is my pleasure to help you achieve your fullest potential in your English and language arts endeavors. What I love, specifically, about tutoring is that it is an opportunity to focus simply on YOU the student and your academic needs and to allow you to set the pace. We will be a team!

I've taught in several different types of learning institutions, embraced a multitude of learning styles, and feel quite comfortable and confident that I can help any student find success. Aside from teaching language arts in a traditional sense, I have also tutored in SAT prep at with a leading national tutoring center. I've also served as an athletic coach and currently teach fitness classes. I can engage and motivate you.

I specialize in teaching English and language arts with a heavy focus in the areas of critical reading and writing instruction. I align my own teaching with state standards and strive to deliver instruction that is rigorous AND relevant. I have also trained students to prepare for English portions of standardized testing, such as the SAT and ACT exams. We can establish a timeline of benchmarks and periodic assessments to make sure you are seeing results from your tutoring sessions.

Please feel free to contact me to learn more about what I can offer, my availability, and how to start tutoring with me. I look forward to working with you and helping you improve your grades and test scores.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
