I earned my pizza money since middle school and throughout high school, college, and post-college working and volunteering as both a tutor in all kinds of academic subjects and as a private swimming lesson instructor. As such, I have experience working with people of all different kinds of learning styles, ages, and disabilities.
I currently work as a health insurance pricing actuary. My specialty is tutoring the preliminary actuarial examinations (1/P, 2/FM, 3/MFE, 4/C, S, 5, and MLC). I have passed the first seven examinations in the past two years all on the first attempt with scores ranging between 8 and 10 and have been tutoring each exam since its respective completion. I also have many years of experience tutoring various mathematical, statistical, computer science/programming subjects. I received my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, so I feel I have a very well-rounded background and can be effective at teaching a broad spectrum of subjects.
My teaching style varies based on each student, but I strive for learning to be efficient while still remaining thoroughly effective. I believe in students learning at their own pace in the way that works best for them, but learning in a way that allows them to save time and retain the maximum amount of information. I have always loved taking exams personally and have learned countless tips and tricks aside from learning the actual exam material that could prove invaluable.
Actuarial Science:
Exam 1/P - Score 8 taken in March 2015
Exam 2/FM - Score 9 taken in August 2015
Exam 3/MFE - Score 8 taken in November 2015
Exam 4/C - Score 10 taken in February 2016
Exam S - Score 8 taken in May 2016
Exam 5 - Score 8 taken in October 2016
Exam MLC - Score 10 taken in April 2017
Other Math/Statistics Subjects:
My proven experience passing actuarial examinations aside, I have always loved mathematics and statistics and excelled throughout all of my academic career. I received an A average throughout school in these subjects, attended the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in high school, scored at the top of this rigorous academic school in various math competitions, and earned a minor in Mathematics and Statistics from Boston University in college. I have also tutored all kinds of math/stats subjects since middle school, ranging from Algebra 1 to Trigonometry to Multivariable Calculus and beyond.
Computer Science & Programming Languages:
Python, R, MATLAB, Java, SQL
I use all 5 of these programming languages professionally and have spent a considerable amount of time helping others and tutoring, so I have a solid grasp of the basics as well as the advanced topics in computer science. I have helped students with projects and prepare for exams, and I have helped prospective employees prepare for CS and data science job interview problems.
