As a tutor with over a thousand hours of experience, I have experience working with a diverse array of learning styles, ages, and disabilities. While everyone has their own learning style and thus approaches must be tailored for each student, I strongly believe in learning through understanding the concepts behind the material, followed by struggling through proper examples. I find that this approach balances both conceptual and practical knowledge, and helps students retain the material effectively.

My teaching style varies based on each student, but I strive for learning to be efficient while still remaining thoroughly effective. I believe in students learning at their own pace in the way that works best for them, but learning in a way that allows them to save time and retain the maximum amount of information. I have always had a passion for taking exams and have learned countless tips and tricks aside from learning the actual exam material that has proven invaluable to many students over my years as a tutor.

I currently work as an actuary and data scientist for a health insurance corporation. I have several years of experience in a professional environment applying these skills. My strengths lie in tutoring a broad array of mathematical, statistical, computer science, and data science disciplines. I have passed the first seven actuarial examinations in the past two years all on the first attempt with scores ranging between 8 and 10 and have been tutoring each exam since its respective completion. I received my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, so I feel I have a very well-rounded background and can be effective at teaching a broad spectrum of subjects.

Actuarial Science Qualifications:
Exam 1/P - Score 8 taken in March 2015
Exam 2/FM - Score 9 taken in August 2015
Exam 3/MFE - Score 8 taken in November 2015
Exam 4/C - Score 10 taken in February 2016
Exam S - Score 8 taken in May 2016
Exam 5 - Score 8 taken in October 2016
Exam MLC - Score 10 taken in April 2017
ASA, MAAA - December 2017

Other Math/Statistics Subjects:
My proven experience passing actuarial examinations aside, I have always loved mathematics and statistics and excelled throughout all of my academic career. I received an A average throughout school in these subjects, attended the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in high school, scored at the top of this rigorous academic school in various math competitions, and earned a minor in Mathematics and Statistics from Boston University in college. I have also tutored all kinds of math/stats subjects since middle school, ranging from Algebra 1 to Trigonometry to Multivariable Calculus and beyond.

Computer Science & Programming Languages:
R, Python, MATLAB, Java, SQL

I use all 5 of these programming languages professionally and have spent a considerable amount of time helping others and tutoring, so I have a solid grasp of the basics as well as the advanced topics in computer science. I have helped students with projects and prepare for exams, and I have helped prospective employees prepare for CS and data science job interview problems. I also spend quite a bit of time participating in Kaggle competitions, and regularly work with students who are trying to improve their machine learning skills.

If you are interested in learning with an efficient and effective approach, or are interested in learning skills or the path to becoming a data scientist or an actuary, please feel free to contact me so we can have a discussion and figure out if I am the right fit for your needs! I look forward to hearing from you and speaking with you.

Knowledgeable, patient--great tutor!!

Andrew was SO helpful to me in determining how to attack a data set. He taught me as we went and explained everything in an easy to understand way without over-complicating things. He is patient, and incredibly knowledgeable about data/statistical analysis. He does this for work so he knew how to quickly attack the problem and describe it to someone “new.”

Knowledgable, expereinced and understanding.

Andrew's grasp of the AP Stats content was evident from the beginning of the lesson through to the end. He carefully went through the concepts scaffolding where necessary and pushing and holding high expectations with a calm kind demeanor.
