Every teacher was once a student. My training as an English tutor began years ago when I was studying French and German in Europe. I remember the challenges of learning a foreign language, and how great teachers inspired me by making the experience fun and rewarding.
Most recently, I have been tutoring critical reading and writing at a Chicago public high school. I also work as an English Language tutor for adult non-native speakers at a not-for-profit organization in the city.
I have completed the CELTA (Cambridge University English Language Teaching for Adults) certification, as well as a BA (University of Western Australia) and an MA (Université de Paris IV Sorbonne).
I work with students of all ages who wish to learn English, or to improve their language skills in preparation for high school, college and career advancement. Each session can be tailored to meet the student's needs, with emphasis on grammar, reading, writing, listening or speaking for fluency. Every teacher was once a student. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
