About Mary

I have been teaching in Chicago Public Schools for the last 17 years. I have been teaching at an Elementary School for the last 14 years. I taught autistic students and I'm currently teaching 5th and 6th grade resource for math and reading. I love teaching history and social studies as well. She was in 5th grade and we worked on fluency, sight words and comprehension.

I have attended many professional development trainings on the Common Core and I can use several resources to enhance the standards. I make my weekly lesson plans based on the Common Core.

I majored in elementary education at Ball State University. I have co-taught in several elementary classes including 1st and 3rd grade. I have taught autistic students for 11 years from kindergarten to 5th grade. I received my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction (Autism Spectrum Disorders). I also have a Masters Degree in Special Education.

I love the Blackhawks! I also enjoy tennis and basketball. I am pretty good at sign language, and love music.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I have taught autistic students for 11 years for Chicago Public Schools. I received a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction (Autism Spectrum Disorders) from Arizona State University in 2015.

Common Core

I have attended several trainings on Common Core in reading and math. My lesson plans for my classroom have been based on Common Core for the last 3 years. I majored in elementary education at Ball State University.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have co-taught regular education and special education combined several times during my career. I have also passed the Elementary test for teaching for the state of Illinois. I majored in Elementary education in college.

Social Studies

Teaching social studies is one of my favorite classes. I have a minor in history and an endorsement in social studies.

Special Needs

I have been teaching special education for 17 years for Chicago Public Schools. I am experience with autism, learning disabilities and behavior disorders. I have a master's in special education and I have the LBS1 endorsement.
