About Faith

I have been a Master's-level teacher since 2009 where I have worked in both small group and co-taught classrooms helping students excel in the areas of Reading fluency, Reading Comprehension, Phonemic Awareness, Vocabulary development and Written expression. I love to teach and love to watch my students progress in areas where my students are in need of remediation. I have certification in the area of "Struggling Readers and Language immersion" so I am able to build my student's confidence and content knowledge in these areas. I am a very dedicated and hard working individual and will work hard to make sure that you progress and feel our time together has been valuable time well spent.

I have specialized certification in the areas of "Struggling Readers and Language Immersion." I have excelled in teaching grammar, reading and vocabulary through the use of proper diagnostics to pinpoint the areas of need and then build on those areas at the my student's own instructional learning pace. I use strategies such as guided reading activities, memory development, context clues development as well as comprehension language clues.

When teaching phonemic awareness I typically use methods such as word comparison, rhyming, sentence segmentation, syllable segmentation and blending, onset-rime segmentation, blending and segmenting individual phonemes and phoneme deletion and manipulation.

When teaching spelling I use strategies with my students that include developing phonemic awareness, understand phonemic nature of spelling, learning the phonemic code, approaching the process of spelling phonetically, acquiring the knowledge of spelling patterns and learn/memorize specific and "tricky" spellings.

All of the strategies above have been used time and again on my own students in my classroom and have proven results. I am so excited to take my long history and experience coupled with my passion for teaching, out of the classroom and into the tutoring environment where I can work one on one with students to help them learn and grow.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
