About Weston

My name is Weston, and I have had assistant teaching experience with music to Elementary schoolers as well as college-age students in music history (specifically history of opera). I have a B.A. in philosophy with a minor in theatre, graduating with highest honors. I have written many blog articles for the Christian Science Monitor, a major international newspaper, as well as news stories for WBHM, an National Public Radio station.

I enjoy tutoring students at many levels of the education process, ever since I would help my little brother with his homework as a kid myself. I enjoy watching students learn and develop an appreciation for the arts and for learning in general. I have taught both elementary school students and college-level students aspects of music appreciation and history as a teaching assistant.

I have written hundreds of academic papers at high levels of scholarship. I have also written for local and international news organizations, and edited press releases for Opera Birmingham.

I've done work with the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) to understand how sounds come together to create words, even across different languages.

I have played clarinet for nearly fourteen years and have sung for four. Although not on a professional level, classically speaking, I have a great deal of experience of playing in orchestras, bands, and ensembles of various skill levels. I also know an inordinate amount about Western classical musical history, especially opera.

Feel free to contact me to learn more and schedule lessons!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Clarinet

I have played clarinet for 14 years. While not on a professional level, my experience means I can teach young students and beginners (and I have done so before).
