About Brian

I tutored family friends in high school, but most of my tutoring experience happened while I was an undergraduate at the University of Chicago. I worked at a program that helped disadvantaged youths succeed in school. I took a year off after college to work for a healthcare IT company where I spent much time teaching the system to client hospitals. I then returned to the University of Chicago in 2013 to begin medical school. During my first year, I directed and taught a nutrition class to a local high school.

I enjoy tutoring because I love unlocking the joy of learning in my students. As someone who feels like a career student at this point in my life, I understand fostering a love for learning is paramount for success in life. I am additionally entering my 4th year of medical school, with large amounts of free and flexible time, but also financial demand as I take licensing exams and travel for residency interviews.

I originally started tutoring in math as a high school student. I come from a math heavy family, and took a number of math courses in college. To me, math is pure and logical, and approaching the subject in this manner allows for the greatest contemplation.

I always excelled in science as a student because I found ways to understand the underlying scientific principles behind a subject, thus allowing the easy application of these principles for learning. As a Biology major and current medical student, I use many different scientific principles (not just biology) in my daily work in the treatment of my patients.

I plan to start tutoring once I finished my current year of medical school at the end of June. Please contact me if you wish to schedule lessons!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
