I have received my Bachelor's degree in health science and I am certified as a medical technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. I worked in the healthcare field for fifteen years in the community hospital setting, physicians' offices, and reference laboratories. My knowledge extends to Microbiology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, and Hematology.

I excel in teaching math and science due to my healthcare career. The healthcare experience I gained includes a strong knowledge of the human anatomy, its clinical findings, and determining what are critical results in the evaluation of complex testing. It is this training that allows me to be an effective teacher in math and science. The math concepts that are stressed in elementary and middle schools allow children to understand statistical analyses, probability, and of course basic math.

In the laboratory you must recognize when samples are out of range whether low or extremely high. In either case dilution of samples are tested and quality control samples with known values are retested to make sure patient results are correct.

The microbiology, hematology, and blood bank departments rely on statistical analyses in determining the percentage of patients that acquire nosocomial infections during their hospital stay and how it can be combated in the future along with the appropriate use of antibiotics. As far as hematology the normal complete blood count contains a certain percentage of normal cells and any variation is examined thoroughly. Finally the blood bank department deals with cell compatibility for a successful transfusion in patients.

I have gained the ability to teach reading as well. The emphasis in elementary education today is reading and teaching English as the second language (ESL) that includes the Hispanic population as well. I have currently taught this subject for 5 years in 2 south suburban school districts.

The main concern for a teacher is watching a young mind open up with the full comprehension of any lesson. A child's mind has no limitation and absorbs so much information like a sponge. When a teacher has accomplished this we have met our goals.

Within these last few years (graduation in 2014), I have gained additional education by completing my Master's degree in business administration and project management. In many ways the educational field can be viewed as a specific area of management. Previous years have indicated that project management referred to construction only; however, it has now opened up to education and healthcare.

The standardized testing that is required by many states has a level of standards that must be met. The goals of our schools is to determine where quality is lacking and how to combat that issue. Many of our testing protocol now requires the students to think beyond the actual classroom and view their lives in a broader realm (to a career choice and generally the test will indicate this). While the education standards may be set higher than when I was in school many factors hinder the learning process. As educators we are aware that economic conditions, family concerns, and even students bullying one another are major distractions.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been an active substitute teacher for these grade levels. I have taught at school districts 148, 151, and 161. The districts are located in Dolton-Riverdale, So. Holland, and Flossmoor, IL respectively. I have been employed in this capacity for 5 years now and originally started in SD 162 which is in Matteson, IL. In aLL of these schools, my responsibility was teaching math, reading, language arts, and science. Even though there were plans left by the permanent teacher, I still needed the knowledge to convey the subjects to the children.
