About Jehangir

My love of teaching comes from helping friends in high school in Math and Economics. My passion for teaching was further strengthened in college when I became a Teacher's Assistant from my sophomore year till I graduated - TA'ing both the lowest level and the highest level Economics class.

Currently, I am a PhD student in Economics at UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago). During the school year, I will generally be available for tutoring after 5pm on weekdays and anytime over the weekends. During breaks (such as the upcoming summer break etc.), I will be available for tutoring from 9am to 9pm. Sometimes I do travel for races (I'm an aspiring runner) but if I do then I plan those weeks in advance so it shouldn't conflict with any schedules.

Math has always been something I have thoroughly enjoyed. Part of the reason I am passionate about Economics and pursuing it is because it is highly math-intensive. Having studied math all my life, taken tests such as the SAT and the GRE, and helped my peers and students in economics, school math, and SAT/GRE math, I have acquired and in-depth understanding of the subject that I enjoy passing along to those in need.

I provide in person as well as online tutoring. I am also willing to commute for clients but if this commute is longer than an hour then there will be an additional hourly charge that will be agreed upon if the need arises.

I have experience with students with disabilities. If you have learning, auditory, visual, or other disabilities then please let me know beforehand so we can discuss your situation and decide how to proceed accordingly.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you on your road to success

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I'm a PhD student in economics which means I have met all the prerequisite math courses required for admission - at a minimum these include the whole series of calculus in college in addition to Linear algebra. My score in the GRE for the math section was 162/170. Finally, I find algebra to be a lot of fun!

Economics

I am an Economics Phd student. I've been a teacher's assistant for Principles of Economics, Principles of Macroeconomics, and intermediate microeconomics.

Political Science

I majored in Political Science in college, taking classes as diverse as international politics, comparative politics, special topics in political science, government and constitution, law and philosophy, etc.

Public Speaking

I have been a debater ever since high school. I participated in and won awards in Model United Nations conferences in the US and in Canada. Finally, being the president of a student organization in college and working for a year as a financial salesman further helped me hone in my public speaking skills.

Religion

I minored in Religion in college. I have studied Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism in college; however, I consider myself more knowledgeable about Abrahamic religions, particularly Islam.
