University of Kentucky (Comm. Sciences Psych)
Hello! I'm AnnaMary - I am in my late 20's, originally from Franklin, Tennessee, but currently living in Chicago, IL. I went to the University of Kentucky and studied Communication Sciences and Disorders (Speech-pathology) with a minor in Psychology.
While I do not have my background in education, I have experience tuturing young children in elementary and middle school subjects. I've been an in-home tutor over the past year, working with refugee children, through an organization called World Relief. I am currently co-running the Afterschool Program for 15-20 refugee children, where they receive weekly tutoring and social building activities. This past year, I received my 'Literacy Works ESL Tutor Certification' - with some experience with adults, as well.
I have a nurturing soul, with an extra-serving of patience, I've been told :-) I enjoy engaging with children and their families and providing academic support so the student can succeed not only in school, but socially and emotionally as well.
I am creative when coming up with ways to explain basic math, vocabulary, and ESL to students who need assistance with learning the building blocks. I focus a lot on repetition and ensuring a child has a skill solidified before moving forward.
I received my 'Literacy Works ESL Tutor Certification' in 2015. I have been engaging with/tutoring ESL students consistently over the past year, and am currently tutoring refugee children in north Chicago.
I'ld be honored to meet you and work with your child or your family.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
