I'm a former college professor, an author of 2 college textbooks, a writer, a career counselor, business owner and mentor. Most importantly, I love learning about the students I work with, focusing on their goals, helping them get in touch with their values and talents and encouraging them to showcase their best selves. Everyone has the potential to excel in one or even multiple areas, but often a person needs the esteem and assurance that learning and mastering certain skills can bring, especially when it comes to effective writing, which is often the first real connection you make with others.
The right kind of assistance can result in a level of confidence that comes only when knowledge and understanding merge. How do we achieve that level of comfort? We do it together, using the methods that work best for YOU. After all, when teacher and student successfully collaborate, the student is the winner!
I’ve taught English, Essay Writing, Business Writing and Resume Writing for many years at both the high school and college level. I enjoy helping students put their thoughts "on paper" and specialize in giving assistance to those facing the often daunting task of writing college admissions essays. Students I've coached have been accepted at Wesleyan, University of Michigan, Cornell, University of Virginia, Ithaca College, as well as local colleges and private institutions.
I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your expectations and how we can put our heads together to achieve the objectives you set...the ones that will inspire you to do your best, now and beyond. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
