Hello! My name is Kelsie and I am currently in graduate school working on a school psychology degree! I love working with students and helping them gain the skills needed to succeed in school. I have just completed my first year of graduate school training which means I have already learned a lot of ways to support students who are struggling in certain academic areas. First semester, I completed a case study with a student in 8th grade who was struggling with reading comprehension. In order to get a good idea of what his academic needs were, I began by administering AimsWeb reading probes in his grade level which allowed me to gain a sense of his reading fluency. After understanding what his needs were, I selected an individualized evidence-based intervention that I thought would be beneficial in helping him gain the skills he was lacking. The intervention was implemented for about four weeks and I continued to monitor his progress the whole time. As a tutor, I plan on utilizing the skills I learned from this case study to help identify what areas students are lacking in and help them in these areas.
I also currently serve as a tutoring consultant at Tutoring Chicago, where I assist and support tutors who need extra resources for their students. Here, I also administered AimsWeb probes in order to understand the needs of the students on my caseload and selected interventions to be implemented with the students. The two students I have been working with this year are both in 1st grade. I also have experience teaching as I served as an assistant teacher at Child Time Learning Center last summer. With this role, I was given the opportunity to work with children from 1 year old-10 years old.
I really enjoy helping children succeed and tutoring is one way to do so. I am also a huge fan of utilizing data-based decision making in order to produce the most effective responses in tutoring sessions.
I have particular experience with reading interventions as all three of the students I have worked with throughout the past year were struggling with either oral reading fluency or reading comprehension. I also have experience with early literacy.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
