About Kelsey

Hello everyone!
My name is Kelsey, and I am a 27 year old graduate student here in Chicago. I have been babysitting and tutoring for many years for friends and family, and I have been working with children in my professional life in various capacities for the past five years. I majored in Sociology in my undergraduate career, and am now working toward a Master's degree in Social Work at Loyola University Chicago. I am proficient in my writing, proofreading, reading, spelling, and study skills, and I feel confident in my tutoring abilities in these areas, as well as other subjects.

I chose this major in college because it was incredibly interesting to me, and I developed a passion for the subject. Because of this passion and interest, I invested a great deal of time in and outside of school to learn and engage with the subject, and I feel that my sincere investment in this topic would be beneficial to tutoring sessions.

I have always been a voracious reader and writer. Because of this, I developed great reading and grammatical skills. Currently, I work at a high school where I proofread students' college personal statements, so I am still actively engaging and honing my proofreading skills everyday.

I would say that one of my strongest skills from elementary school until now has been spelling - for one reason or another, it comes naturally to me! I had the great opportunity to participate in a highly gifted program in my last two years of elementary school, and in middle school, which built a great foundation for my reading, writing, and especially my spelling skills. I feel confident in my skills and being able to help others develop these skills, as well!

My grad school/work schedule leaves me with a couple weeknights and weekends available - Wednesday and Friday (anytime after 4pm), and Saturday and Sunday days/evenings. I am also free Monday mornings.
I'm a major people person, and I am confident that my experiences, skills, sense of humor, and enjoyment of learning will contribute to a successful and fun tutoring experience!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Sociology

I majored in Sociology for my undergraduate career, took a wide variety of courses, and earned high marks and praise from professors. I have continued to engage with my major in the form of service/immersion trips, volunteer programs, and my current pursuit of a Masters Degree in Social Work. I still remain connected to my Sociology professors and read sociological literature for classes and for personal interest.

Swimming

I was on the swimming team for four years in high school, moving to Varsity for my junior and senior year. I excelled in both sprint and distance races, and competed in various meets and competitions through my high school. I kept up my swimming skills in the off-season through my involvement with the water polo team. I have also lifeguarded many friends and family birthday parties.

Water Polo

I was on the water polo team for four years in high school, becoming Varsity captain for my senior year. Twice, I was awarded most improved and most valuable player. I kept up my swimming skills for water polo in the off-season through my involvement with the swimming team. I came back after graduating for alumni water polo games, and provided mentorship and training for my younger sister who also played on the water polo team.
