Indiana University (Journalism)
Hunter College (Master's)
I have a Master's from Hunter College and a degree in Journalism from Indiana University. For the past eight years I have been in the classroom teaching pre-k4 and 1st graders. On weekends and the afternoons I tutor past students and others, ranging from ages 3 to 10. I love helping children learn and I am very passionate about making it the best experience they can have! I currently work in the Chicago Public School system and volunteer tutoring. I enjoy helping children understand that "hard homework" and helping it all just "click"! Please let me help you and your family succeed!
I teach every day, from writing names to stories. I can sing a song with direction to each and every letter and number, helping your child learn easily. If singing isn't their thing, I have tons of different tricks up my sleeve.
As an early childhood teacher, our entire curriculum is built around phonemic awareness. I have tons of different programs and approaches I use, one will for sure help your child.

Our first session is always free! I like to meet and have a shorter "get to know you" introduction!
She came for an introductory tutoring session in math for my 2nd grader. She made the session fun for my child and tried different approaches to get a feel for how my child learns. Rebecca came prepared with a bag full of math board games, too.
As a teacher in the Chicago Public School system and a previous teacher in Miami Dade public schools, I am very familiar with the common core curriculum.
In today's classroom, pre-k is kindergarten, kindergarten is 1st, and so on. Curriculums are moving faster and children need extra help. I have a master's degree in early childhood and elementary and spend my days in the classroom and volunteering, helping children in grades pre-k through 6th learn!
With knowledge of Handwriting without Tears, Zaner-Blosers, Letterland, and more, I am a perfect candidate to teach any child, no matter the struggle, how to write.
With The Heggerty approach, Letterland, and regular classroom teaching, I have familiarity with many phonemic lessons. As a pre-k teacher, I am constantly teaching the 42 sounds. I am fully equipped with my own collections of phonemic teaching songs, games, and activities.
