Shan was born and raised in Taiwan in the early 80s. Growing up at a time when information about the world was ever increasing, Shan was always fascinated by the things that connect people together. From this point of her interest developed her passion in the languages and the arts.
After 6 years of fine art concentration training in her native Taiwan, she moved to the United Stated and earned her BFA in graphic design and MA in art therapy. In the first 2 years after her immigration to the US, she gained English fluency at a age where people thought unlikely and achieved the native level.
She aspired to connect seamlessly to those from the United States and around the world. Her successful adaption into the US had allowed her to work in a clinical capacity as a therapist for almost 10 years. She has taught Mandarin Chinese for the last 5 years, and has provided interpretation in medical, school, political, and business settings. She has lectured and been a guest speaker at Universities, clinics, and major museums both in the US and in Taiwan.
As an artist, her artwork has been printed and published in Mandarin Chinese, French, and English. She has shown and exhibited in over 5 major cities internationally. What energizes her the most is students' interest in growing as a person and what they in turn bring to the table as a student.
As a Chinese tutor, Shan has been teaching, translating, and providing Mandarin Chinese services for over five years. She has individual and group teaching experiences with students age 4 to 74. Born and raised in Taiwan, Shan represented her county and schools in language related competitions due to her excellence in the spoken Mandarin Chinese language. One of her career highlights is that in 2014, she translated for a former Taiwanese president in a democracy forum. She is passionate about the language. She is always happy to help students gain mastery and fluency over it while having some fun in the learning process. As a teacher she focuses on multiple intelligence and learning styles the student has in order to help each student succeed.
Once as an ESL student herself, Shan has a proven track record of going from zero English fluency to native level. Shan can teach you how to totally immerse yourself in the language and adapt to not only the language itself, but also it's culture points. She will help you design a package tailored to your own individual interest and targeted area for growth.
Shan has 20+ years of academic training in watercolor and drawing. She is a national champion in Taiwan for comic drawing. She has expert understanding of color, composition, use of line, shapes, and design elements. Whether you are looking for self-expression or some creative fun, there is something for everybody.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
