I recently graduated with a PhD from the University of Chicago. I have extensive training in math, physics, and science subjects from my undergraduate and graduate schools. I graduated with a B.S. in Physics from the University of Southern California with a 3.9 GPA, and a 4.0 GPA at the University of Chicago in a medical physics Ph.D. program. I am well qualified to tutor all undergraduate physics courses, and math courses through calculus and differential equations. I also tutor test preparation, including ACT, SAT and GRE.

I also have significant experience teaching children. I worked for two years at the Pacific Science Center (a science museum for children). There, I worked one-on-one and with small groups of children to make math and science fun and enjoyable to learn and explore! I have also worked as a volunteer science teacher for elementary, middle, and high school students, and I am well qualified to tutor students of all ages.

I am very excited to help you achieve all of your academic goals!

Public Speaking

I took a college-level course in public speaking and received an A grade in this course. Additionally, I have given many oral presentations as part of my coursework, and public presentations about my research projects. When tutoring for public speaking, I try to focus on helping the student build a solid structure for the talk, as well as build confidence in the student's ability to communicate his or her ideas succinctly and clearly to his or her audience. I achieve this by giving strategies for success including structure of a successful public speech, and delivery strategies including pacing, tone and eye contact with the audience.

Computer Programming

I have taken several college-level courses in computer programming, including C++ and Matlab programming languages. I am also in a PhD program for which I write computer programs for science research. I like to focus on programming concepts when tutoring, and break down confusing computer algorithms into simple, understandable pieces.

I use MATLAB every day as part of academic research. I am fluent in writing functions and scripts in MATLAB. I have mentored fellow students in developing MATLAB programs, and have tutored students in MATLAB as well. I have taken college level courses in MATLAB.

Knowledgeable and provided exactly what I needed

Kayla was on time and ready to work. I appreciate the fact that she gave me exactly what I was looking for! She really understood the ACT science passages and explained the "why" behind the answer.

The best tutor.

She is one of the most kind, patient, and helpful tutors. She helps you without giving you the direct answers and still makes you think about what you are writing. She has been fantastic every single tutoring session!

Excellent Tutor

Kayla tutors my daughter in Trig. My daughter was struggling earning a grade of a "C" in summer school. After the first session with Kayla, my daughter earned an "A" on her next test. She says Kayla explains things better than her teacher and makes it easier to understand. Kayla also did not use any resources to reference during tutoring. She understood every concept. Kayla is awesome. I plan to use her in the fall to tutor my daughter in Physics and Geometry.
