About Michael

I have been tutoring all my life. I began tutoring in when I was in high school and have continued throughout the years from undergraduate to my graduate career. Currently, I am working towards my P.h.D. in Medicinal Chemistry focusing on drug design and drug development. Prior to graduate school, I worked as an organics analyst identifying compounds found from fracking solutions.

My teaching portfolio has some depth to it. I began my tutoring experience when I went to University of Idaho pursuing a double major in Chemistry and Philosophy.

During undergraduate work, I worked as an official tutor for the University of Idaho Departments of Chemistry for classes from Chemistry 101 until senior level courses. I also worked as an official tutor for the Philosophy Department. After graduating, I spent 2.5 years as a teacher in the Peace Corps. I taught roughly 800 young women AP Chemistry and AP Calculus. Not only did I work as a teacher, I was also a teacher trainer - I am well versed in the aspects of learning chemistry.

After moving to Chicago for graduate studies, I now volunteer as a Homework Helper for elementary school children at the Howard Washington Library in downtown Chicago. During my P.h.D. program, I have 2.5 years working as a teaching assistant for the College of Pharmacy. During the summers, I worked as a tutor for the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy chemistry tutor for incoming students by training them for the PCAT - the pharmacy entrance examination similar to the MCAT. Fundamentally, my worked focused on making the learning of science fun - something that is usually lost in today's science education.

Overall, I have the following credentials: 4 years into my P.h.D. program in Medicinal Chemistry - a focus on analytical, organic, and biochemistry. A B.S in Chemistry from University of Idaho and a B.S in Philosophy from University of Idaho graduating as Cum Laude. I have over 2000 classroom teaching hours and over 300 tutoring hours through the work for both of my Universities.

Science learning is and should be fun. That's my real goal - I not only want you to become more scientifically literate, but I also want to have fun doing it.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

I have 2000 classroom hours teaching college level chemistry as a teacher and laboratory skills. I have worked with students from all walks of life and together developed chemistry skills.

Organic Chemistry

My P.h.D. focuses on the development of new drugs in of proteins. For this work, I have a strong background in biochemistry and Organic Chemistry: I have 2 semesters of undergraduate organic chemistry, 2 semesters of advance organic chemistry, and 2 semesters of graduate level organic chemistry. I have also taught the sections of organic chemistry during my teaching years.

Philosophy

I have my BA from University of Idaho in Philosophy focusing on jurisprudence and logic. I worked as a TA throughout my undergrad.
