I have three years of teaching experience teaching Latin (at all levels of basic grammar sequence), classical mythology, Roman history, and (English) etymology at the university level. As an undergraduate, I tutored Latin for the Classics honor society. Although my university preferred the modern, passive approach to ancient language acquisition, I used active, spoken Latin in my classrooms.
I hold a M.A. in Classical Philology from the University of Florida, where I also completed three years of coursework (including prose composition in both Latin and Greek) and all qualifying exams for the PhD. As of 2016, I have nine years of experience with Greek (ancient through Byzantine) and eight years of experience with Latin (classical through modern). In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
