About Steve

Hi, My name is Steve. I was a reading teacher in Granada, Spain for 1 year and then became a Title 1 Reading Teacher at Palatine High School. I currently work in Television and do Stand Up comedy on the side. I'm a great teacher because I was a difficult student, and I was lucky to have patient, thoughtful teachers who gave me the one on one attention I needed. I learned from my teachers, and have had a pretty good go of teaching.

I'm also an Economics major which emphasized a strong command of math word problems.

I majored in Spanish and lived in Spain for over a year and a half. I still speak Spanish daily, and read and write in it proficiently.

I was a reading specialist at a middle school in Spain and at a high school here in the States. I also took over 30 hours of undergraduate English coursework at the University of Illinois

I'm a fun, easy going teacher who understands that patience is paramount to a child's learning.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Film

I have worked in Film and Television for 3 years. My boss is an Emmy award winning director and I have worked on Major Motion Pictures and Prime Time Television Series. I am a huge film buff; you have to be passionate about film to stay in the film industry since it's very hard work.
