About Shuan

I am a lifetime teacher and student. I began teaching English as a foreign language in Iraq in 2007. When I was there I developed a passion for learning languages, and I learned the joy of watching the success of my students as they overcame obstacles to gain proficiency in English. I have since taught and tutored students in a variety of subjects such as Japanese, Kurdish, Sanskrit, cooking, and college planning. For me, teaching and learning are symbiotic experiences: The teacher benefits from teaching as much as the student benefits from learning. I want to pass this belief on to students in various fields. In short, I want to help students achieve their personal goals while encouraging them to pass the information they have gained to others.

I can offer tutoring in all the subjects mentioned above as well as produce content for other subjects with which I am less familiar. As a student, I developed habits of organization and prioritization that make me uniquely able to help students to achieve a similar level of success to that which I have achieved. My specialization is in the acquisition of foreign languages, and I encourage anyone interested in a language that is not on my list or is underrepresented by the community of tutors to contact me for guidance. I have access to a wealth of knowledge that would be beneficial those with diverse needs.

I have a degree in Japanese language and culture, and I tutored my peers, when I was a student. I have advanced ability in Japanese especially in the areas of reading and writing. I have taken courses in Japanese at the university level and am familiar with the various expectations of university courses. I am familiar with a wide variety of Japanese textbooks and can immediately understand the expectations of your particular program.

I have experience as a student of these subjects in university level courses within which I received perfect marks

I have helped many friends and family members plan their college trajectory, research professors and apply to scholarships with a high level of success.

I have done yoga at least twice a week for eleven years. I conduct classes for friends and acquaintances. I am not a professional instructor, but I can help plan a daily regiment that includes all or as many branches of yoga as desired.

If you are not sure whether I can help you with your academic goals and interests, please contact me. I welcome correspondence, and at the very least, I can help you find a path that will work for you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
