About Rebecca

My M.A. is in English Literature from DePaul University.

Presently, I freelance in publishing with Palgrave Macmillan (NYC), Lumina Datamatics (MA) and Wright Group/McGraw-Hill (IL). Self-employed, I index, proofread, and copy edit manuscripts.

From 2003 to 2006, I taught English and Communication/Public Speaking at Robert Morris College. I also taught Humanities and Creative Writing.

Through DePaul's Urban Teacher's Corps, I tutored extensively in CPS high schools and grammar schools from 2002 through 2003. So I'm great with emerging adults, high schoolers, and K–8 students.

For my B.A., I double majored in English Literature and Philosophy at Miami University (1996). There I tutored extensively for two years, gaining the maximum clients possible (30 students a week). Each year I took the required semester-long Study Skills class, which certified me as a Study Skills tutor. Along with Study Skills, I tutored English, Literature, Humanities, Formal Logic, writing, and reading.

I also have experience tutoring learning disabled and severely disabled students.

Thanks for reading!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Proofreading

As a twelve-year plus indexing freelancer, mine are the last eyes on a manuscript. Other freelance proofreading, copy editing and indexing clients include publishers and various universities.

Public Speaking

For three years I taught Com 101 – also known as Public Speaking – at Robert Morris College. As an adjunct college professor I taught the five basic speech types. Additionally I'm an active performing musician, songwriter, and band leader, so I'm adept at comfortable stage talking, engaging groups, and generally making performances merry through human connection.

Reading

I'm schooled in SQ3R reading method, previewing, scanning, learning styles, reading comprehension, note taking, test taking, and more.

Writing

My M.A. is in English Literature from DePaul University so I'm trained at a master's level in writing. For the past twelve years, I've worked in editorial publishing. Along with indexing manuscripts for various universities, I proofread and copy edit for publishers.
