About James

Math was a huge part of earning my engineering degree, and the subject I've always been best at. I use it all day, every day to do my job in trading.

I have used Microsoft Excel extensively in trading and finance for the past 8 years.

I graduated with honors with a degree in Industrial and Systems Enterprise Engineering from the University of Illinois down in Champaign. I've spent the last 8 years as a professional options trader in the Board of Trade in downtown Chicago, which I live nearby.

While working as a trader, I have been heavily involved in the education of new hires. We put them through a rigorous course of written and verbal testing, along with classroom exercise, all of which I directed for several years. I enjoyed it so much that I'm considering teaching as a new career path, and I figured tutoring would be a great place to start.

Please feel free to reach out and we can discuss how to improve your math ability!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I scored 35 on the ACT math section.

Algebra 1

I graduated with honors from the University of Illinois with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Math has always been my forte.

Algebra 2

Algebra is a basic building block for all branches of mathematics, which I have studied throughout my years in school and my career as an options trader. I understand the importance of having a firm foundation to move onto potential higher-level coursework, and how important even the simple concepts become down the road.

Finance

I have been working in finance as an Options Trader for the past eight years. My specialties are stocks and options, but I have traded commodities, fixed income, index, currencies, and some ag products in the past. I am series 56 certified.

Microsoft Excel

I have become an expert in Excel by using it every day in my job as an options trader. I educated coworkers at my company in how to use Excel quickly and effectively.

SAT Math

I scored 790 on the SAT math section.
