About P.D.

I love teaching Art History and helping students get a better understanding of artists and movements. My specialization is in western art of the nineteenth century to the present day, but also have a strong knowledge of major works through all of human history. My studies in Art History also include Film, Philosophy, Theology, Critical Theory, Literature and related subjects in the Humanities. I love helping people understand and learn something for the first time. I have a Master's in Modern Art History, Theory and Criticism. I have a functional command of French and Spanish. I've studied Pop Art, Architecture, Design, 19th Century Art, and more. My teaching approach is custom tailored for each student. I tend to be lively, engaging and dynamic. I'm less interested in strictly memorizing a list of facts but eager to help each student establish a long lasting comprehensive knowledge of the material. I've taught college Art History courses, worked in Art Museums and quite a few other jobs in between. I also love to travel and my diverse knowledge of various cultures and traditions I bring to bear on all teaching.

My knowledge of Art History is far reaching. I make connections between visual art, music, literature, cinema, and broader historical trends. I am well acquainted with giving gallery talks to people who have never encountered most of the artworks they will be seeing. I've formally studied many movements in Modern and Contemporary Art but am also knowledgeable in broader movements and trends in Art History.

I look forward to working with students of Art History or related fields. I'm a young energetic teacher who will help you reach your goals and improve your command of the material.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
