All while attending school, math made sense to me. I would always been helping friends understand the concepts in the most basic ways possible. Most often, not understanding a single concept can make the entire course seem difficult. I want to help. For my undergraduate education, I attended the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Math and Chemistry. Throughout my undergrad, I worked as a tutor through the math department. This consisted of holding group tutoring sessions for ten hours per week.
For my Master's Degree, I attended Roosevelt University and earned an M.S. in Math with a concentration in Actuarial Science. I currently work in petroleum chemistry, so I use math and chemistry everyday. Thus, most of the coursework I've taken throughout my education has not been lost due to lack of use. I also find that having a job that is hands-on with my education makes it easier to provide real-world examples. This often makes learning a concept easier. It is rewarding to helping people grasp a concept that they have found challenging to understand on their own.
I do the best that I can to help students best relate to what they are doing. Once the concept is grasped, any problem of that type can be solved easily. I like to start off with the most basic of problems, gradually increasing the difficulty to understand where a student is having a disconnect with the work. From there, it is easy to pinpoint what needs to be worked on.

Matthew has helped me understand math in a way no teacher ever has. Always finds an explanation that I can relate to. Def recommend him to all students struggling! Because of him I got my math average up to a B+.
Super helpful, and always answers all my questions. Explain things better than my professors, and I left the lesson with a much better understanding of the topic
Matthew was a great explainer and made me understand the material completely and gave me more confidence for my test tomorrow.
We reviewed Inequalities, piece-wise functions, sequences, and basic trig ratios with the unit circle. I liked how he went into depth on each topic and put it into terms where I understood.
Matthew G. Was very helpful in helping me review key math topics before my final. I thought he was very patient and attentive.
Matthew tutored me in Chemistry and we went over a lesson that I had missed in class. He is very knowledgeable and helpful in helping me understand the subject matter. Not only did he respond quickly to my message, but he also met on a less than a 24-hour notice. He is a kind and personable tutor that made me feel very confident upon leaving the study session. I highly recommend him!
Matthew taught me calculus on halloween. He gave me his time and expertise. Extremely patient... Super helpful. Will definitely use him again
Matthew is a great tutor. He is very knowledgeable and communicates the topics very well. He came prepared with a notepad and pens which was a plus! I would definitely hire him again!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
