In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Three years of Biology within the IB program(International Baccalaureate) in high school, including one at college level, culminating in a high score on my IB Biology test and successfully graduating with my IB diploma.
Although I am primarily a trumpet player, just like many other musicians I started my musical journey with piano lessons as a kid for several years. I later took a break to focus on my trumpet playing, but have since resumed lessons in college and spent hours practicing on my own in order to be a better, more well rounded musician. I currently teach a small studio of aspiring beginner pianists. In lessons I work toward setting a strong foundation of music making with proper technique and an introduction to music theory, for whether they stick with piano or choose another instrument down the road like I did.
While studying for my Trumpet Performance degree at DePaul, I learned that many of the ways that a healthy approach to playing the trumpet with good technique apply to many of the other brass instruments. I greatly enjoy playing trombone and between my working knowledge from my own practice, combined with my study in DePaul in brass concepts and performance styles, give me more than enough of a background to teach beginner to advanced beginner trombone students.
I have been playing and loving the trumpet for 18 years. I went to DePaul University and completed a degree in trumpet performance where I studied and performed music of all styles from classical to jazz and modern experimental composition. Since graduating in 2012 I have been very active performing in a variety of bands, widening my musical horizons even further to include funk, salsa, hip-hop and fusion. I have also been teaching trumpet privately since 2011, and feel as though I have come a long way, the longer I teach, in learning how to cater to each student's individual needs, and how to make it as accessible and enjoyable as possible.
