About Larissa

Hello,

My name is Larissa. I am a graduate student in political science. I plan to become a professor one day. My favorite subjects in school were History and English. In high school I took AP classes. As a college teaching assistant I have taught classes and discussion sections. I have helped students with tests, papers and research assignments. As a graduate student, I am available a few days a week to tutor students or help them with major projects. My former students would describe me as very knowledgeable and available to help with any issues or questions.

I am very nice and patient with my students. I have worked with students from various ethnic, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds. I know that different methods of learning work for different types of students. I make an effort to identify what kind of student I am working in order to assist the best way that I can.

I have am familiar with the subjects of both biology and zoology. I know what kind of studying is required for these subjects.

English and Writing are my strongest subjects. I have always scored above average on all of my standardized tests.

I have worked in a University setting. As a graduate student I am well aware of the college application process. I feel I have vast and beneficial information about the college application process.

As a graduate student in the social sciences, I can easily teach social studies for any grade, K-12.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you need help with any of these subjects or anything related to them. Best!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Geography

I study comparative politics and international relations so, I am very familiar with the geography of the world.

Social Studies

I am a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Political Science Department. I have taught social science classes at the college level. I have taught POLS 100 which covered basic American history and political structures. I have also taught about POLS 211 which was about urban issues and diversity in the city of Chicago. This, and other classes I have taken in my academic career, covers the history of race relations, the formation of cities and systems in America and the world. I feel this makes me qualified to assist and tutor students who are K-12, as well as, college-aged.

Writing

I have always scored above average on the writing sections of standardized tests. I scored 100% on the writing test that Wyzant administers.
