Hello, my name is Jason. I hold a valid Illinois teaching certificate which has allowed me to teach social science for ten years at a Chicago Public School. I have taught an array of subjects: World History (Studies); US History; AP Government; Economics; and Law in American Society. I tutored students on a weekly basis after school. I have a great passion in seeing students succeed in our educational environment. My goal is to create a foundation of skills so that students have the necessary tools to be successful in any grade level, and at any subject.
Educating brings me great joy. When I see students grow, I grow too; when I don't see students grow academically, I challenge myself to solve the problem. I am here to help, but my satisfaction is seeing my student(s) become more confident in their educational endeavors.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Since the implementation of Common Core State Standards (CCSS), I have focused instruction based upon these expectations. CCSS is the foundation of teaching in today's educational environment. All of my curriculum maps and lesson plans focus on CCSS. I focused on meaning of words, relationships, sequencing, supporting details, and main ideas according to CCSS requirements.. Also, we have recently incorporated a writing component called MEL-Con in which students learn how to write a mini-thesis and provide supporting details to give credence to their mini-thesis (Main Idea).
