Northwestern University (Theatre and History)
I'm a Northwestern University graduate who knows what it takes to succeed in all subjects and at all levels. I have experience tutoring everything from basic math and reading to Bar/Bat Mitzvah work, but I specialize in essay writing (I'm here for you, college applicants!) and standardized test prep. Having graduated with degrees in theatre and history, I love helping people work on their public speaking skills, and I would be very excited to work with anyone studying culture or the arts.
While studying at Northwestern, I won multiple writing awards and worked as a copy editor for The Daily Northwestern. Since then, I have spent my time taking writing classes and performing at various comedy theaters around Chicago (including Second City and iO), so I know how to command an audience's attention while conveying an important point. I am an excellent writer, proofreader, and public speaker, and I would love to help others reach their full potential.
Whether you're applying for college, studying for an upcoming test, or just hoping to get a little extra help in a difficult subject, I'm here to help! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in theatre from Northwestern University, where I regularly performed and delivered speeches. Since graduating, I have taken several classes at Second City and other Chicago comedy theaters, and I regularly perform my own written material as well as other published work. I also have experience helping students prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, often assisting them in practicing their speeches.
As a history and theatre student at Northwestern University, I received multiple writing prizes, including the Jill Stacey Harris Prize for writing an outstanding research paper. I also worked as a copy editor for Northwestern's student-run newspaper, The Daily Northwestern. Since graduating, I have further honed my writing, research, and editing skills by working as a Research Center Aide at the Chicago History Museum and as a staff writer for various comedy groups around Chicago. I am an excellent writer with a firm grasp on grammar, mechanics, and syntax. If you're looking to improve your essay writing, contact me!
