About Pat

Here is a picture of me with my daughter in Budapest last summer. I love to travel, spend time with my family, play ice hockey, and bicycle.

I have a PhD in Economics and am currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at UIC where I teach quantitative methods courses. Prior to coming to Chicago, I was an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto.

I am a teaching professor, this means that I spend my time teaching students, not writing research papers! This is because I love teaching. Tutoring can be even more rewarding as the direct interaction and immediate feedback from the student allows for the material to be covered at exactly the right pace for the individual student.

I have experience tutoring for the SAT, GRE and GMAT in both a classroom setting and on a 1-on-1 basis. I specialize on the math/quantitative sections of these exams and got a perfect score myself on the GRE math section.

As an undergraduate, I majored in electrical engineering at UPenn with a minor in math and my graduate studies focus on quantitative methods including statistics and econometrics. I have an MS in international economics from SUNY Buffalo and a PhD in economics from Illinois.

I'm looking forward to helping you develop a love for (or understanding of) statistics and/or economics!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Econometrics

I have taught Econometrics at the graduate and undergraduate levels at the University of Illinois and the University of Toronto.

Economics

I have an MS in economics from SUNY Buffalo, and am finishing my PhD at UIC this year. I have TA'd many courses at UIC and currently teach econometrics. I have presented original research at conferences in the U.S. and Europe.

GRE

I obtained a perfect score (800 at the time) when I took my GRE. I helped other students study at the time, and I have been an SAT tutor.

Microsoft Excel

While working in the private sector, I used excel on a daily basis. I wrote VBA macros to process daily files. Much of my job involved computing financial information using excel. I also taught Excel as a statistics/probability TA at UIC.

Probability

I have been TA for introductory probability/statistics at UIC.

SAT Math

I tutored in a classroom setting and 1:1 while I was in high school and in college. My SAT math score was 780/800. In high school I took multivariable calc. I have an engineering bachelors degree with a minor in mathematics.

STATA

I use STATA to conduct academic research for my PhD dissertation in economics.

Statistics

I currently teach both Grad & Undergrad econometrics at UIC, a course which has statistics and probability as a prerequisite.

In the past I have taught Business Statistics and Mathematical Statistics at the University of Toronto.
