University of Michigan (English, Math minor)
I have been tutoring math since 2014, both in schools and as a private tutor, working with students that are in middle school, high school and college. I greatly enjoy supporting and connecting with students to help them understand the math.
I am currently in graduate school, pursuing a Master's degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science. I greatly enjoy the work that math requires, applying concepts and equations to solve problems. I believe this is only part of what makes me a good tutor. My patience, creativity, and my relational attitude help me to engage with students, helping them to feel more comfortable to tackle problems on their own. I try to ask questions that will get students to think and understand concepts on their own, but will reexplain ideas and concepts in different ways if the material is confusing. From my experiences as a tutor, I have learned to be flexible and willing to meet students wherever they are at with math.
In short, I greatly enjoy math and tutoring. I look forward to students being successful and overcoming their own struggles with math. I like to think of myself as a gracious and understanding person. Please reach out to me if you have any questions about anything I can help you with. I highly recommend Tim C. for Math tutoring. He is knowledgeable, patient, and adapts his tutoring style to each of his students. As the ED for a non profit, I engaged Tim's services to help our students. He has been working supporting with both elementary and high school math. Our students feel more confident in their knowledge and approach to Math. Thank you Tim!
Very helpful and kind, he thoroughly explained every concept until I fully understood it! Really great teacher and very patient
Timothy was very nice and patient. He was very good at ecplaining the information that I was unsure about. He was helpful.
Timothy worked with my son - a high school junior - on a variety of math concepts to prepare for the coming school year, as well as the ACT. The two got a lot done and my son was very encouraged and positive regarding their session. We plan to continue working with Timothy far into the future!
Tim is so patient and positive during his tutoring. I'm pretty much math illiterate and he sits with you smiling every step of the way. Couldn't have lucked out with a better math tutor!
Tim is great with the kids and very patient. He helps them understand the material so that they feel confident in their ability to complete the work. The kids also like Tim's personality.
He taught me how to fully understand domain and range. Also helped me understand logirithims better. He was very helpful and patient with what I was doing and was asking.
Timothy is very knowledgeable and great at explaining the concepts and making them easier to understand. He didn't waste any time and immediately began teaching and explaining the material.
Tim is doing a great job with my teenage daughter helping to explain logorithms and other math. He is patient; explains things thoroughly; and has a low-key personality that fits well with a student experiencing frustration or confusion with math. He is also punctual and pleasant to have in the house. A great fit for students looking for math enhancement!
My daughter was very happy at the end of her 90 minute session. She said "He helped me to make sense of it!"
I've never had to hire a tutor before...Mommy has done it all! However, I don't do Math! Enter Timothy. ..TIMOTHY DOES MATH and my daughter is happy and looking forward to her session with Timothy tomorrow.
As I looked on at my daughter from a distance, her body language was relaxed and her shoulders weren't uptight as they usually are when she's frustrated and upset dealing with subject matter she doesn't understand. I even heard her sigh happily as to indicate she got the concept and how it related to other math problems. Timothy most definitely was calm and patient with my daughter.
As a teacher, one of the greatest things a teacher can do when introducing and/or reviewing content is to help the students ask questions that will lead to comprehension and mastery of the content. Timothy did that tonight. As he worked with my daughter, he helped her with the explanations so she could ask questions and find the answers as she solved the problems. I'm most definitely satisfied with the quality of instruction and support he provided to my daughter, Anita. When we arrived, he was ready with his materials he needed to teach and work with Anita. There was less than 2 minutes spent on introductions and getting her materials ready. Timothy took the necessary time to listen to my concerns with Anita's math skills, my concerns for her to master then content as well as this being a first for us. And most importantly, Timothy was able to comprehend the goal for my daughter and how the tutoring support would be crucial to Anita so she could reach her goal.
I was so relieved that our experience with OUR FIRST TUTOR, EVER, has been an absolutely great and positive experience for both my daughter and me...Thanks, Timothy!
Timothy is always patient! He is very encouraging and personable. I feel way more confident in Trig now. I would definitely would recommend him to anyone! He knows his stuff! He never gets frustrated and his always kind.
Timothy was able to answer all of my questions regarding calculus, with in depth reasoning behind each answer to help me apply it, not only to that problem, but to most of the questions I will come across in the future. It took just one day to set up our tutoring session and Timothy was able to travel to my campus and was flexible with his hours. Very patient and knowledgable, all you could ask for in a tutor.
Tim was very patient w my ADHD son teaching him PreCalc & was thorough & creative in his methods. We look forward to continuing to progress & highly recommend him.
Timothy was thorough and he provided me with simple explanations instead of long and verbose talk that confuses me. He was also very patient with me. I'm glad my mom found him!
Tim does a great job with my son. He makes sure that he can do more than just find the right answer. Tim ensures that he understands the principles and rules behind finding the correct answer. Also, we have begun to see an improvement in his math grade.
Timothy has been tutoring my son in Algebra. He was able to explain complex concepts using easy-to-understand terms. My son is now feeling more confident in the subject thanks to Timothy's creative tutoring skills!
Timothy is very patient and knowledgable. If it weren't for him, I may not have passed my pre-calc class. Thanks a lot.
When I initially reached out to Timothy, I expressed the need for someone with patience and knowledge of mathematical methods when teaching calculus. He assured me he was willing to take on the task. After the first lesson he reassured me he would not give up and that meant a lot. I truly believe he is a patient and caring young man who wants to help his students reach their potential.
He was patient and helped explain geometry in a way that made more sense than my teacher. Will definitely work with him again on a regular basis.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored students with their algebra coursework for over a year in a high school setting. Have also studied advanced algebra at the University of Michigan for Mathematics minor.
I studied mathematics for my minor at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Some of the classes I took were probability, linear algebra, and Calculus I, II, and III.
