About Erik

Before moving to Chicago, I was a school psychologist for a middle and high school in Kansas. Therefore, I am familiar with the education system and the evaluation process. I have a background in comprehensive assessment, progress monitoring, and tracking growth over time. Furthermore, I have a familiarity of the various strategies used to improve academic success.

My experience in education also includes working for the Kansas Assessment Program Mathematics Test Development team under the Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation. There, I designed math items to match testing standards for grades K-12.

Lastly, in graduate school I had the opportunity to teach an undergraduate course and that experience helped me better understand the importance of explaining ideas several ways as each students learns in an individual way.

I know the specific areas that can be difficult for students at an early age and the importance of staying ahead for academic success. Having said that, there is no one method or way to study or learn. The key is to find what works for each student and build a routine. This involves understanding a student’s cognitive development and current skill set. By setting short and long term goals, tough tasks are more possible.

I am available to tutor elementary reading and math, as well as Prealgebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. I believe in finding a method that works best for each student, and tracking progress over time to visually show outcomes. Most importantly, I believe in empowering a child that they control and are responsible for their success.

In order to make sure I am a good fit tutoring each student, I am happy to meet with parents for a free consultation to answer questions and discuss ideas.

I look forward to hearing from you and discussing your academic goals.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
