About Oleg

I have had experience with tutoring high school and later university students at several stages of my life. In high school I tutored 11th graders in SAT Math and was able to raise their scores by more than 150 points in some cases. Afterwards, while attending the University of Chicago, I became a grader for a Calculus professor and I also held office hours during which I assisted students with the material, answered their questions on the topics that they were struggling with and also solved practice problems for them. During my final year in college I enrolled in a program called Harper Tutors where I tutored first year college students in Calculus.

I have always had a passion for tutoring, even as a hobby. As someone with a younger brother, I was always in a process of sharing knowledge with someone who had less experience and I carried that feeling of patience and responsibility whenever I dealt with my students. I believe that any prospective student who commits to working with me will witness positive results in due time.

I received a score of 800 on my SAT Math (first try) and have previously tutored high school students in SAT Math with successful results. I also took many advanced math courses in college as a supplement to my economics major (including Abstract Algebra and Multivariable Analysis), so I am more than qualified to tutor SAT prep level Mathematics. I am also qualified to teach ACT Math as I am completely familiar with the subject. I have also had experience with tutoring students in Chicago in ACT. I scored a perfect score of 100% in both SAT Math and ACT Math when I took WyzAnt qualification test.

I am a native Russian language speaker and I use it on a daily basis. I am fluent in speaking, reading and writing in Russian and have always received excellent grades in the Russian subject while still studying in Russia before moving to the United States. I may offer help both with formal Russian as well as colloquial and slang (if needed). I have offered private tutoring services in Russian language in the past to native English speakers with success.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I may be willing to do the first session for free on a case by case basis to provide an opportunity for you to get to know me and to gain an assurance of guaranteed future results. I may be available on any day of the week, but the earlier you let me know what times work best for you, the more likely it would be that I can accommodate those times.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I took advanced algebra and analysis courses at the University of Chicago as I was completing my BA there. I have experience tutoring students up to college level through Harper Tutors (University of Chicago program) in algebra and precalculus as well as high school students of various age. I approach my students as if I were a student myself and try to understand the way they think to achieve best results.

Russian

I am a native Russian speaker who uses Russian on a daily basis. I am fluent in speaking, reading and writing in Russian. I converse on a daily basis in Russian, read Russian news and watch Russian videos. I can assist student both with formal and colloquial Russian. When I took an online test for knowledge of Russian grammar and usage, I scored in the top 10% of test takers (which included native Russians). I also have experience tutoring native English speakers in Russian (some of that experience occurred while I was a student at the University of Chicago). My students have always been satisfied with my services and they usually recommended me to others based on the fact that I am a native speaker and can help with complicated cases.

SAT Math

I have tutored high school students in SAT Math through various venues since 2004. Additionally, I have received a perfect score of 800 on SAT Math and I know the material inside out. As someone who went through the process to study for the test, I can convey not only the necessary material, but also the SAT test taking strategies that should improve my students' scores.

Great Tutor

We reviewed a variety of grammatical aspects and pronunciation points with forays into essential Russian phrases and cultural norms. It was a well rounded lesson and very interesting.
