During my two years as a tutor and teacher, I have learned that every student is unique. No two students learn the same way and some learn best through unconventional methods. That’s why I craft my approach to tutoring to mesh the individual learning styles of my students. I have helped students with a broad range of learning styles and skill sets achieve success both in school and on standardized tests. I am proud to say that I have received excellent reviews from every family I’ve worked with.
I have experience working with students from elementary to high school, although I specialize in late elementary through middle school. I have tutored students for standardized tests, such as the ACT, ISEE, and CPS selective enrollment exam. My approach to tutoring is centered on collaboration. I work with my students on challenging material, allowing them to become active participants in their education. My goal is to empower students to become creative problem solvers and critical thinkers.
I am committed to getting to know my students, so I offer free consultation meetings for every family that I work with. Students and parents should feel free to contact me at any time for questions. I typically respond to E-mails within a day of receipt.
I am flexible both in regards to location and time. While I prefer to tutor at my student’s home, I am willing to meet at any quiet public space. I am typically available Monday through Friday early evening through night time and all day on Sunday.
I look forward to working with you!
I graduated magna cum laude from University of Illinois at Chicago and am currently doing master's work in special education. I am kept very busy as a student and educator. But in my free time, I enjoy reading and skateboarding... at the same time! (Kidding)
I have tutored students from elementary school math through pre-caluclus. My approach to math tutoring is a progression from instruction to guided practice to independent practice. I begin the sessions by introducing my students to new concepts and teaching them the skills necessary to master the concepts. I then work with them through practice problems. When my students become more comfortable with the easier problems, I introduce them to more advanced problems. I become increasingly hands-off, giving my students the opportunity to master the concepts independently.
I also have experience tutoring students in reading comprehension and writing, as well as the English components of standardized tests, such as the ACT, ISEE, and the CPS Selective Enrollment exam. I am familiar with several active reading strategies that are proven to improve reading comprehension. When I tutor writing, I allow my students to take ownership of their work while guiding them through grammar, sentence structure, and organization.
Please contact me for whatever reason! I am more than willing to tell you more about me and my background as an educator. I am currently accepting more students, so please message me if you would like to schedule lessons. During my two years as a tutor and teacher, I have learned that every student is unique. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
