I currently live and work in Chicago as an office operations associate and freelance content writer. I frequently write advertising and blog copy, and my work has appeared on a handful of current business websites.

I graduated from Lawrence University in 2015 with a Bachelor's degree in English and music (piano) and a minor in psychology. At Lawrence, I student taught for a year before becoming a certified piano teacher through the Lawrence Academy of Music, where I taught beginner through advanced-intermediate piano students.

Academically, I focused heavily on English classes in American and British Modernism. An avid writer and editor, my consistent excellence in English began in high school, where I earned an SAT grammar/writing score of 800. I am comfortable tutoring and teaching writing, reading, grammar, and test prep. I currently hold an ISBE substitute teaching license through the year 2021.

I'm a long distance runner with a marathon mentality; I believe people can achieve more than they realize if they persevere and acquire the right tools and motivation along the way. I also believe that my background in psychology and ample experience with children of all ages give me a leg up in tutoring and teaching.

Piano,

Piano

In June I will graduate from Lawrence University with a Bachelor's degree, with piano as one of two main areas of study. At Lawrence I performed with the Conservatory Chamber Orchestra, completed a rigorous academic sequence that included music theory, aural skills and sight singing, and music history with a focus on American composition. My capstone recital was 30 minutes and featured music by George Gershwin, Charles Ives, Benjamin Britten, and Leonard Bernstein. I have completed the required piano pedagogy sequence through Lawrence University and am certified to teach through the Lawrence Academy of Music. I have been giving private piano lessons for several years to students with a variety of skill levels.

Fitness,

Fitness

I believe my background in psychology combined with my personal lifestyle and philosophy make me a great fitness coach. I've introduced sworn fitness-haters to distance running, tennis, gym workouts and weightlifting, and can work with people from all backgrounds. I personally am a distance runner, weightlifting gym rat, and yoga fanatic. My “students” have described me as patient, motivating, driven, practical, and supportive. Most recently, I coached a coworker in distance running and helped her complete 3 legs of a Ragnar relay (3 separate distance races over the course of 2 days). Within 3 months, she went from 0 to 30 miles per week, and lost over 30 lbs. We trained running, cross training, and weightlifting, and I coached her on nutrition and proper body care.
Tennis,

Tennis

As a prospective college student, I was recruited by several Division 3 schools to play singles tennis as a freshman, and although I declined these offers in order to pursue academics and music, I have never stopped playing tennis! I play recreational singles and doubles around a level 4 and can teach basic technique and drills.
Yoga

Yoga

I have been an avid yogi for almost five years, and attend classes at my local yoga studio (Empower Yoga, in Appleton, WI) several times per week. I have watched instructional and pedagogical videos for teaching yoga, and have read a moderate amount of literature on power yoga, meditation, and spirituality.
