About Linda

I have been teaching high school math for the past 12 years in Park Ridge, IL, but I live in North Center, Chicago. I have taught many courses including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Advanced Algebra, College Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Pre Calculus, as well as ACT review. I also have years of experience teaching a curriculum aligned to common core standards. Because of my teaching and tutoring experience, masters degrees, and passion for math and learning, I am very successful at helping students reach their full potential in mathematics.

Because I have been a teacher for the past 12 years, I not only know the material, but I can anticipate common mistakes and how to resolve them. I have many strategies, tricks, and songs that will keep your child engaged and help them better understand and remember important concepts. When I meet with your child, we will discover which learning style is best for them. I also form great connections with my students. My students know that I care about them and that I am on their side. I know some of the frustrations, challenges, and anxieties that some students face with math and I will help them see the light! My biggest goal with tutoring is to build the student's appreciation and understanding of math as well as their confidence, which will transfer to other areas of their life.

I look forward to working with you and your child. Please feel free to contact me for more information.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

Twelve years of teaching a variety of high school level classes from Algebra through Calculus have given me the experience to be a great ACT Math tutor. Every year, I do ACT review with my students, so I have access to many materials, solutions, tricks, and tips.

Algebra 1

I am extremely confident and qualified to teach Algebra 1 due to my bachelor's and master's degrees in Mathematics Education. I have also taught Algebra 1 at the high school level for many years so I understand common mistakes and how to resolve them. I am well educated in all aspects of Algebra 1 and beyond.

Algebra 2

I have 12 years of teaching experience at the high school level. In addition, I have bachelors and masters degrees in Math Education. During my tutoring period at the high school I work at, I actually spend most of my time tutoring Algebra 2 students, so I know the subject extremely well.

Geometry

Geometry might be my favorite subject to teach! I have taught some type of geometry course every single year of my 12 years teaching so far. These courses include: geometry, plane geometry, and advanced geometry and trigonometry. In addition to high school geometry, I have also taken geometry courses at the college and graduate school level.

Prealgebra

Since I have been teaching for 12 years, pre-algebra is definitely a subject I am extremely confident to teach and tutor. It is so important for students to have a strong foundation in their algebra skills to succeed in future courses. I have taught some type of Algebra course every year so far, so I am familiar with common mistakes and how to resolve them.

Precalculus

Pre-Calculus is a class that I have taught for the past 6 years in my school district. I love the new topics and challenges that arise for the students and the sense of accomplishment when they master the topics. In addition to teaching the course, my bachelors and masters degrees in Math Education make me extremely qualified to tutor Pre-Calculus.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is another one of my favorite classes to teach. Not only do I love the topic and its applications, but I have also taught the course every year in my past ten years teaching. I have also spent a lot of time tutoring the subject during free periods and have been very successful.
