About Jane

I have a passion for learning, and have excelled academically all my life. I believe that any student can succeed with the right mindset and work ethic, and as a tutor I have striven to bring out these traits in the students I teach.

I earned a degree in economics, but I am proficient in a broad range of subjects. My first tutoring experience was in high school, when I volunteered to tutor younger students in algebra, geometry, and introductory Spanish. The bulk of my tutoring experience came after I graduated from high school, when I helped high school juniors and seniors in my hometown to prepare for the SAT. As a recent high school graduate, I was well versed in the college application process, and also offered help to students writing personal statements for the Common Application. I continued to tutor high school juniors and seniors for the three summers following my high school graduation, and the material remains fresh in my mind.

I provide individualized lesson plans that cater to the unique needs of unique students. I believe that academic progress requires challenge, and I assign homework to promote progress between sessions. However, I understand that students have other obligations, and I try to avoid assigning more than is manageable. While I firmly believe in the value of practice between sessions, I encourage students to let me know if at any time they begin to feel overwhelmed.

When it comes to time and location, I am flexible. I prefer to meet students at a public space (e.g. a Starbucks or a library) in a mutually convenient location.

I look forward to hearing from prospective clients. Together, we can reach your academic goals!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
