About Brent

Hi! My name is Brent, and I'm excited to get you excited about writing or English. I'm a double major at Ball State University in Theatre Education and Theatre Production (Directing) and have extensive experience working with children of all ages. I was a camp counselor for five years at the Arthur Jordan YMCA, where I worked with children ages six to twelve. Additionally, I have student teaching experience and field experience working with both high schoolers and middle schoolers from diverse backgrounds, who love my mixture of candor and fervor when it comes to teaching and mentoring students. I'm willing to provide tutoring online!

I excel in writing and English, and have been able to foster good writing in students for the past three years as a Teaching Assistant for the demanding, writing-intensive THEA 103 and THEA 104 courses at Ball State. As a Teaching Assistant, I provided constructive feedback to students in a timely manner. In high school, I got a 5 on the AP Test for English Language and Composition, and a 4 on the AP Test for English and Composition. I also received a 1970 composite score on the SAT in June of 2010, with a 760 in the writing portion of the exam. I also graduated from Ball State University Magna Cum Laude with Academic Honors in Writing!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Theatre

I am earning a degree in Theatre Education as well as Theatre Production with an emphasis in Directing. I have acted in, written, and directed multiple plays, in a variety of arenas. I have interned at A Red Orchid Theatre in Chicago, and am currently student teaching at Warren Central High School in the domain of theatre.

I am also one of 26 finalists for the Ball State University Academic Honors in Writing, a campus-wide distinguishment available to seniors, which is judged by evaluating both a timed writing sample and a portfolio of course-related writing.
