Hello! I am a National Board Certified teacher who is passionate and driven about what I do and the positive impact that I can have on student learning. I have a Master of Arts in Teaching and an endorsement in teaching English as a Second Language. While I am certified in grades K - 8 , I currently teach kindergarten in a Chicago Public School.
I am excellent at teaching all facets of reading (comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, writing & fluency) through a balanced literacy approach. When teaching math, I focus on more than simple answer-getting and instead on children learning how to explain their mathematical thinking and to critique the reasoning of others. Whatever the subject, learning should always be interactive, engaging, meaningful and fun!
Throughout my nine years of teaching, I have had many experiences working with children who are performing below grade level. Some of these children have needed additional supports/personalized instruction and some of them have had special needs. Additionally, I have also worked with children who are performing above grade level and need enrichment to continue their growth. Regardless of the circumstance, I created individualized, strategic plans for these children using research-proven methods to help them achieve and exceed their goals.
I am dedicated and committed to helping each child be successful and reach his/her fullest potential. I look forward to working together! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have taught kindergarten for the last nine years. Phonics and phonemic awareness are the basic foundations for learning to read, which is what I teach children to do all day! I follow the scope/sequence laid out by Fountas & Pinnell and make sure that my students have the phonics skills necessary for their instructional reading level.
