About JUSTIN

Fortunate enough to be an educator for 11 years now, I have experience in all subjects in grade levels 3-8. My passion for helping students succeed both in and out of the classroom can be seen in my positive attitude and demeanor. I am a board member of the South Suburban Reading Council, and have had many articles published within the Council's newsletter. Having been a creative writing minor in college, I take great pride in being able to teach students the many rules and exceptions that make English such a challenging, yet rewarding language. As Common Core State Standards help to reinvent and reestablish success in the classroom, I have had experience in helping the school district that I teach in, by being a part of their curriculum committee and PLC facilitator team.

As a tutor, I will challenge students to increase their expectations, work ethic, and level of success. Since I am in the profession of helping students succeed, I recommend feedback from students and parents to enhance the learning experience for all parties involved. I ask for any cancellation to be scheduled at least 12 hours in advance. In the case of a cancellation, I would definitely be willing to offer a scheduling change for that session, if feasible.

To guarantee a quiet, safe atmosphere, I prefer to have tutoring sessions held at local public libraries. I am willing to travel to accommodate the needs of scholars and their parents.

Please contact me if you are interested in a positive and effectual tutoring experience. I promise to help you pass that class and succeed . . . guaranteed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

Common Core State Standards have been implemented and utilized in the school district that I teach in for two years. I have been a member of the district's curriculum committee, which works to become better acquainted to the standards. All daily lesson plans that I submit to my school principal are aligned to ELA and mathematics CCSS. I have been a licensed elementary educator for eleven years.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a licensed elementary educator for eleven years. I have over a decade's worth experience within a self-contained regular education classroom. As for one-on-one tutoring, I have helped students in the subjects of Social Studies, Science, Math, Reading, and Writing.

Elementary Math

I have taught intermediate and middle school math for 11 years. I have experience teaching math from third grade through sixth grade. With the Common Core State Standards being implemented, I have had training through the South Cook Math Initiative.

Elementary Science

I have taught intermediate and middle school science for several years. I have experience with grade levels third through sixth. Life science and Earth science are two subjects that I have great familiarity with. I have been a licensed elementary educator for eleven years. I have over a decade's worth experience within a self-contained regular education classroom.

Geography

I have taught intermediate and middle school Social Studies and Geography for several years. I have experience in coaching Social Studies bowl teams, as well as, Scholastic Bowl teams. Geography is actually one my favorite subjects, and therefore, a strong forte of my teaching passion. I have been a licensed elementary educator for eleven years.

Grammar

To serve and protect . . . I may not be a police officer, but I am a proud member of the Grammar Police. I have taught Language Arts for 11 years. Without correct grammar, scholars will greatly struggle with their writing. Not to worry, I am here to serve and protect the ever-so, exception-packed English language.

Proofreading

Editing versus Revising . . . who will win? The student that excels in proofreading will be the victor. I take great pride in teaching scholars to continually read and reread their writing. We correct ourselves several times a day when we speak, and writing should get that same treatment. I have been a licensed elementary educator for eleven years. I have over a decade's worth experience within a self-contained regular education classroom.

Public Speaking

I earned an undergraduate degree from Bradley University, majoring in Communications. Many of the classes that pertained to that area of study included speaking in front of large groups. As an educator, I have continued my passion for public speaking by presenting to teachers and staff within the school district that I teach in. I also teach proper methods and skills for public speaking to the scholars that I have in class. I have been a licensed elementary educator for eleven years. I have over a decade's worth experience within a self-contained regular education classroom.

Reading

I am a proud board member on the South Suburban Reading Council. I have experience in researching best practices for my position on the board as Studies and Research Chair. In the classroom, I have taught reading for 11 years. I have also been on a committee in the school district that I teach in that worked on curriculum development in reading.

Spelling

As with my experience in the other ELA subjects, I have helped scholars become better spellers for several years. There are many different strategies that can enhance one's ability to spell correctly. Those strategies can also work to improve study skills at the same time. I have been a licensed elementary educator for eleven years. I have over a decade's worth experience within a self-contained regular education classroom.

Writing

All writers were once students, but students are very hesitant to currently consider themselves writers. As a creative writing minor in college, I thoroughly enjoy helping scholars become writers. Writing is a skill and ability that we need for the long haul of our lives, just like good ol' reading and math. I have taught writing from grades third through eighth for over a decade.
