University of Wisconsin (French)
I was born in France and later grew up in the USA, speaking both French and English at home. When I was a teenager, I was in love with French music, constantly bringing home the latest record albums from France, much to the delight of my mother. I had my first class of grade school French students when I was seventeen and majoring in French Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I turned our home into a classroom, and my students gathered around the dining room table to learn French. I tried to make lessons fun, and the idea that learning a language should be fun has remained my philosophy to this day. Although I have helped people with French pretty much all my life, I decided to focus on tutoring more intensely after a cab driver in Paris told me I should move there to teach French in 2006. It is my way of 'giving back' to the country I so love by helping to promote the language and culture.
I have a genuine passion for helping people to learn the French language, and I believe that my approach is unique because I incorporate music videos (when appropriate), to provide insight into correct pronunciation and useful vocabulary. Students who study with me learn the language as it is actually spoken in France ! I have created handouts with shortcuts to learning grammar with detailed explanations. I also utilize a textbook from France with additional grammar exercises, if necessary. I guess you could say that my goal is simply to make French easier for students to grasp by focusing on individual strengths and weaknesses. Although I have tutored students at all learning and age levels, I prefer the high school or college levels. My greatest reward is the success of my students by helping them to improve their grades in French!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
