About Ahmed

Being an Instructor of chemistry at a community college in Chicago, I have been teaching General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Survey of Organic and Biochemistry for the past 9 years. As an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, I taught chemistry to teachers in a MSTQE program in the past.

I have also been an active researcher in the pharmaceutical industry. My graduate research as well as pharma research was published in peer review journals such as the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, and Neuropharmacology.

Tutoring chemistry had been my passion ever since I graduated from the university. In fact, I privately tutored a diverse population of high school and college students during and after my college years and in my free time. I have also tutored a select group of students and helped them prepare for MCAT and PCAT exams from UIC and Loyola University in Chicago.

My tutoring services typically help students boost their confidence, improve their skills and grades, and prepare them for tests and exams. I customize my lessons to the needs of students and help them achieve their goals.

I would like to tutor General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Survey of Organic and Biochemistry, MCAT, and PCAT 1-to-1, in small groups, and online.

• GENERAL CHEMISTRY TOPICS:
Chemical symbols, how to write chemical formulas, Lewis dot formulas, geometry and shapes of molecules, periodic table of elements, stoichiometric calculations, metric system and unit conversions, dimensional analysis based calculations, writing electronic configuration of elements, balancing chemical equations, energy and specific heat calculations, temperature conversions (Celsius to Fahrenheit and vice versa), calculations using gas laws, calculations related to molarity and concentration of solutions, acids, bases, and buffers.

• ORGANIC CHEMISTRY/SURVEY OF ORGANIC AND BIOCHEMISTRY TOPICS:
Chemistry of functional groups, rules of IUPAC nomenclature, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, thiols, ethers, carbonyl compounds, carboxylic acids and their derivatives, amines, proteins, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, hormones and messengers, natural product chemistry, concepts of isomerism, resonance, and chirality, natural products, name reactions, organo-metallic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, organic synthesis/retro synthesis, spectroscopy (IR, UV, NMR) and mass spectrometry.

2. ARABIC LANGUAGE PROFILE:
In addition to chemistry, I love to teach Arabic. I have tutored Arabic language courses to college students and adults in Chicago and suburbs. I helped them learn reading, writing, pronunciation, and fundamentals of Arabic grammar. I have strong oral and verbal communication skills in Arabic which enabled me to tutor Arabic lessons in the community.

Having academic background and extensive experience in Arabic language, I taught basic Arabic grammar, vocabulary, construction of sentences, writing phrases in Arabic and translating them into English and vice versa, and basic language skills. I am proficient in tutoring following topics 1-to-1, in small groups, and online.

• ARABIC LANGUAGE TOPICS:
Fundamentals of Arabic grammar, short and long vowels, definite/indefinite nouns, demonstrative pronouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, singulars & plurals, masculine/feminine genders, interrogatives, affirmatives, past, present and future tenses, imperative mood, tri- and quadriliteral root system, Arabic numerals, commonly used vocabulary, communication skills, writing short sentences in Arabic and translating them into English and vice versa, verbal communications, articulation/proper pronunciation, use of root system based Arabic-English dictionary.

Teaching is my passion and a career that I enjoy every day. I would like to share my knowledge and experiences with my students and inspire them to achieve their goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Arabic

I have BS (Majoring in Chemistry & Arabic), an MS in Organic chemistry and an MS in Medicinal Organic Chemistry. I have extensive experience in teaching/tutoring 2 year college and 4 year undergraduate students in Chemistry and Arabic language.
