Governors State University (Elementary Education)
Hardworking, dedicated, goal oriented teacher who possess a Type 03 Illinois license. Highly qualified to teach K – 8th with a middle school endorsement in English Language Arts. I have worked with Chicago Public Schools for 17 years and the last 8 years as a teacher.
My previous experience with CPS began as a volunteer and gradually developed into holding several positions (SECA 1:1 aide for Hearing Impaired, cross category special education, guidance counselor aide, and instructor assistant for a legally blind teacher in gifted education). As a teacher, I have taught 3rd through 8th grade and substituted long term in preschool and kindergarten. For the past four years I have taught middle school. My current full time teaching position requires me to base all lessons on Common Core State Standards.
I have a passion for English Language Arts: reading, writing, spelling, and grammar mechanics. My goals for each student is to keep the students engaged and challenged, however, not overwhelmed. I hold myself to a high standard and have high expectations for each student. For that reason, I will ask for feedback.
The lessons, I teach will be geared toward the individual student’s learning needs and style. I aim to ensure that each student under my instruction gain a clear understanding and learn to build confidence, and they will strive to achieve their educational goals through hard work and dedication. Not only will they achieve academic confidence they will make a connection between real world experiences.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you accomplish success in your academic studies.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Illinois adopted the Common Core State Standards in the 2013 -2014 school year. I have been implementing these standards in Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math curriculum to replace the former Illinois State Standards. Each CCSS is skill specific to focus on the skills that students actually need with that overwhelming them with too many vague objectives.
I am qualified to K-6 because I am certified in the state of Illinois to K-8th. In addition, I have taught under my current certification grades 3rd through 8th. I have taught summer school Bridge Program within CPS, as well SES afterschool programs throughout my teaching career.
