About Diane

I have nearly 35 years' experience as an ESL and English/Spanish medium bilingual teacher, Kindergarten through Post Graduate levels.

I am as familiar with the needs of foreign professionals and university students as I am with all-subjects elementary, junior and senior secondary schools. I teach accent reduction and presentation skills, grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking.

I tutor all subjects at the elementary level, as well as junior high school English and mathematics. I am also familiar with the Cambridge system: PYP, Middle Years, IGCSE and International Baccalaureate (IB) A and B level English. I have done test preparation for SSAT, SAT, GRE and GMAT.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Master's degree in Education and a K-12 teaching license. I have taught all subjects elementary for a number of years. I took a skills test as part of the certification process.

ESL/ESOL

I have an MA in TESOL with 35 years teaching experience, am K-12 qualified. I held a K-12 ESOL license with the state of New York and just passed the state of Illinois qualifying exam.

Phonics

My Master's degree in Education, which met the course requirements for New York State certification, required six graduate semester hours in the teaching of reading, including the study of phonics and its importance to the reading process.

Social Studies

I have had the coursework in history, economics, sociology, and political science to be a certified social studies teacher in a K-12 school.

Spanish

I have a BA in Spanish and lived in South America for 13 years. I am also a certified educator and work in Spanish medium bilingual classrooms. I am not a native speaker, but do teach Spanish language arts to native-speaking students through the junior high level.
