About David

I have recently moved back to Chicago. I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, but I am a dual U.S./Canadian citizen and earned a Master's Degree from the University of Chicago in the Humanities.

I am finishing an ESL certification and currently teach ESL here in Chicago, but I am excited apply my years of academic study to teaching any high school subject.

I earned my Bachelor's of Arts degree in Philosophy and History of Math from St. John's College in Santa Fe. And I have had extensive experience discussing humanities, math and sciences at the highest level.

Regarding the style of my lessons, I believe in the primacy of student production and therefore encourage my students to learn as actively as possible during my lessons to optimize their retention and comprehension.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

World History

I have received an MA in the Humanities from the University of Chicago and a BA from St. John's College, both of which required reading many historical texts and writing extensively about history.
